Former Ghana defender Dan Quaye has called for the dissolution of the Black Stars team following their disastrous performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The West Africa powerhouse face another early AFCON exit, depending on the result from other groups. Ghana could have sealed automatic qualification to the knockout of the tournament with a win over Mozambique.
But the Black Stars threw away a two-goal lead in dramatic circumstances as they drew with Mozambique in six minutes of additional time. Jordan Ayew’s brace were cancelled by Geny Catamo and Reinildo Mandava.
Speaking to Koforidua-based Bryt FM, the former Hearts of Oak defender clamored for the dissolution of the team following their disappointing campaign.
“To me, the entire Black Stars team must be dissolved. We need to embark on a rebuilding. Players who are ready to sacrifice for the nations must be given the chance than to call players who are not committed to play for the country”
“We just have to maintain only five players from this current team. Mohammed Kudus, Jordan Ayew, Majeed Ashimeru, Alexander Djiku and Daniel Amartey must be maintained in the team. The rest don’t deserve a place in the team, they should just make way for new players”
“We are the worse team at the tournament because we don’t call the right players. We have competent players who can play for the national team like, Wakaso and Alfred Duncan. Underperforming Wakaso is better than an inform Baba Iddrisu, so why do you leave him out”
Ghana drew two games at the Nations Cup, finishing in third place in Group B, behind Cape Verde and Egypt.
