The 2023 Annual Health Summit kicked off in Accra on Monday, June 5, 2023, with an appeal for strategic investment in the health sector.
Mr. Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, Minister for Health, who made this appeal, stated that proper funding for the health sector would promote a better, more responsive, and resilient health system.
The CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority, Dr. Okoe Boye who was one of the panelists at the Health Summit observed that the Health Financing Strategy provides a vehicle for Ghana to accomplish its aim of moving toward universal health care.
He continued by saying that to put theory into practice and achieve the goals and objectives of the health financing strategy, it is important to consider the context and environment of Ghana.
The theme of the summit was “Sustainable Financing for Primary Health Care (PHC) Towards Attaining Universal Health Coverage in Ghana: The Role of Stakeholders”.
The Ghana Health Financing Strategy aims to achieve equitable, efficient, effective, transparent, and long-term health financing mechanisms that lead to improved health outcomes, financial risk protection, and customer responsiveness.
The summit brings together stakeholders from Ministries and Departments, all health sector agencies, development partners, implementing partners, civil society, and non-governmental organizations to discuss concrete steps Ghana can take to achieve sustainable financing for universal health coverage.
