Stakeholders in the Eastern region have pledged their commitment and support to the Green Ghana Project by the government.
At the launching of this year’s edition at Asokore SDA College of Education in Koforidua, the Director of Operations at the Forestry Commission, Dr. Joseph Boateng indicated the region’s performance for last year was superb as it exceeded it’s target.
He emphasised that the survival of the trees earlier planted in the last two years is pegged at all 72%, which is satisfactory.
He, however, charged stakeholders to put in more efforts to ensure this year’s edition supercedes that of last year.
The Eastern Regional minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong speaking on the theme: “Our Forest, Our Health” charged Ghanaians to support the Green Ghana Project and make it a success to help deal with climate change conditions.
He assured that his outfit with the Collaboration if other stakeholders will ensure the sustainability of the trees planted and therefore called on all to be watch dogs.
Member of Parliament for New Juaben North, Nana Adjei Boateng on his part challenged Ghanaians and authorities to see to the survival of the trees by taking good care of it as it costs the country a lot to undertake such initiative.
“Planting of the trees should not end here, we should water them and also take good care of them to be able to grow well and survive. That’s the most important thing” the MP advised.
He urged the public to engage in tree planting anywhere they find themselves as it’s health and economic benefits cannot be over emphasised.
Giving the welcome address, the New Juaben North MCE, Madam Comfort Asante underscored the importance of trees in our daily lives as she appealed to the general public to take key interest in the exercise.
“As the saying goes, when the last tree dies the last man also dies. We must therefore do away with actions that affects our forests and environment but rather plant trees where there are spaces to bring back the green Ghana we know” Madam Comfort Asante stated.
MCE for New Juaben South Isaac Apaw Gyasi also took turn to stress on the need for the public to support the agenda of tree planting and encourage all Ghanaians to support in protecting nature.
