Ghanaian forward Maxwell Boakye says the Black Meteors underrated Mozambique in the first leg of the U-23 AFCON qualifier.
The Black Meteors, who are yet to qualify for Olympic Games since 2004 inflicted a 2-1 win over Mozambique at away on Sunday.
Daniel Afriyie Barnieh scored two penalties, handing the Ghana U23 team first leg advantage and are expected to seal qualification this weekend.
In an interview with Koforidua-based Bryt FM, the former Hearts of Oak star was at the stadium to cheer the team up says the Black Meteors underrated their opponent.
“From what I saw, the Black Meteors underrated Mozambique. I play here, Mozambique has a lot of respect for Ghana, they knew it was going to be difficult for them but I think Meteors undermined them”
“Even though Ghana won, Mozambique performed better than the Meteors” he said.
Meanwhile, the Black Meteors will arrive in Accra on Tuesday evening to continue preparation for the return leg this weekend.
On Monday morning, the team held their recovery training session in Maputo in Maputo.
The Ghanaian delegation departed Mozambique on Monday evening, stopping in Johannesburg before continuing on to Accra.
They will arrive in the evening, rest in Accra and travel to Kumasi on Wednesday morning to start preparations for the second leg clash.
The Baba Yara Stadium will host the encounter.
