Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged Ghanaians to vote against the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, in the forthcoming December 7 elections.
Speaking to clergymen in the Northern Region, Dr. Bawumia underlined the need of avoiding the election of John Dramani Mahama, expressing worries about his possible one-term presidency and lack of responsibility that would follow.
Declaring his intention to serve an eight-year term, Dr. Bawumia explained that he would keep his word during the first four years in order to be eligible for another term. He contrasted this with his belief that Mahama will likely fade from the public eye after serving just one term.
The statements made by Dr. Bawumia highlight his conviction that people will hold him more accountable than they will John Dramani Mahama, his opponent.
“For me, because I am looking for an 8-year term, I have to work very hard in the first four years so that when I come back, you will say, oh yes, you did what you said you were going to do. We will give you another four years.
“But for my main opponent [John Dramani Mahama], when you give him four years, that is it. He doesn’t have to come back again. You won’t see him again, especially after he takes his honeymoon, you will not see him after four years.
“So you will get more accountability from me than from him.”
