Members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) protested as Manaf Ibrahim, the Parliamentary Candidate for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), joined the line to cast his ballot, resulting in mayhem at the Asawase constituency’s Akurem Junior High School polling station.
When Manaf Ibrahim refused preferential treatment that would have allowed him to skip the line upon his arrival, chaos broke out.
Early on the day of the election, Manaf Ibrahim showed up at the polling place. Candidates are frequently given expedited access to cast their ballots in compliance with election regulations, after which they can continue to observe other polling places.
Manaf Ibrahim, however, made the rare decision to stand in line with other voters, stating that he wanted to interact personally with his people and experience the process as an average citizen.
