Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) running mate, claims that the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) program will be enhanced during the party’s future administration.
She states that her party is not planning to abolish Free SHS and instead is putting a lot of effort into making it better by addressing the issues that affect teachers, students, and schools.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, a former minister of education in the previous NDC government, spoke at a rally in Sekondi as part of her three-day campaign tour of the Western Region. She stated that her party will not abandon a program in which it spent significant resources building Community Day Schools that would later become Progressively Free SHS.
As a result, she exhorted Ghanaians to disregard false information spreading against the NDC claiming that the show will soon be cancelled.
According to Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, the future NDC government will enhance the execution of Free SHS by making investments in classroom and boarding facilities to do away with the double track system, supply educational resources to schools, and guarantee a sufficient supply of food for pupils.
“Are they saying we should not address the ear that has brought double track to our SHS and affects quality teaching? Are they saying we should not let our children have better food? Are they saying we should not review the policy to provide state-art teaching and learning materials, equipment and tools in our schools? We will fix the challenges of the Free SHS policy to make it better”, she stated.
