The Electoral Commission’s (EC) chairperson, Jean Mensa, has made it clear that the Commission has no authority over the use of force or any other election-related security measures.
Her comments come after the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) announced that military soldiers will be sent to specific areas to ensure electoral security.
No military officers would be positioned at voting places, the GAF stressed.
During a press conference on December 7, Madam Mensa reaffirmed the EC’s non-participation in security planning, saying “In terms of security, we have no hand in it and we do not make security arrangements.”
