The Banda Traditional Council has denied claims that the council has thrown support for Joe Dankwa, a parliamentary candidate, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to the council, any endorsement given was personal, not on behalf of the entire Council.
“The Acting President of the Council, Nana Pɛ Aboatiaa, has clarified that Dr. Bawumia’s team did not visit the chief’s palace and stated that any endorsement given was personal, not on behalf of the Council.
He underlined that it is improper to endorse a particular political party because Nananom welcomes and represents everyone.
In October, Dr. Bawumia traveled to Banda and met with Nana Sekyemme Sinapem II, the Kabrono Chief. The traditional council, however, continues to uphold its neutrality position.
Recalling the event that sadly claimed one life four years prior, the Acting President further asked the youth to refrain from violence prior to, during, and following the elections.
Nana Pɛ Aboatiaa, the Banda Traditional Council’s acting presidentWhen Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), came to the region to campaign before the election on December 7, the chief clarified the situation.
Asiedu Nketia, meantime, called on people to reject Dr. Bawumia and the NPP during a small gathering in Banda-Ahenkro, pointing out that they are unable to provide Ghanaians creative alternatives.
He emphasized the shortcomings of the NPP under President Akufo-Addo’s leadership and urged Dr. Bawumia to cease demanding a debate with John Mahama.
Asiedu Nketia rallied support for the NDC’s presidential candidate, John Mahama, and parliamentary candidate, Ahmed Ibrahim, encouraging residents to vote for them to continue their developmental efforts.
