Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been challenged by Osman Ayariga, the Deputy National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to engage in a discussion with Ghana’s youth unemployment rate prior to contemplating a political confrontation with former President John Dramani Mahama.
Ayariga stressed in a Facebook post on Tuesday, July 16, that the young people, who are struggling with unemployment, are ready and excited for a discussion like this with Dr. Bawumia.
He contended that rather than participating in political discussions, Dr. Bawumia had to concentrate on tackling the urgent problem of employment creation.
“1.9 million youth have no jobs yet this wicked government claimed they have created over 3 million jobs! Where are the jobs? Come and debate them, sir,” Ayariga stated.
He challenged the claims made by the current administration and drew attention to the discrepancy between what the government says and what many Ghanaians actually experience on a daily basis.
Prior to the next elections, John Dramani Mahama of the NDC was challenged to a debate by Dr. Bawumia, the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). The NDC, on the other hand, has rejected the necessity of this kind of discussion, claiming that Ghanaians’ true problems are made clear by the country’s dire economic circumstances.
Ayariga went on to criticize the Akufo-Addo administration, calling it callous to the sufferings of the Ghanaian people.
He advised Dr. Bawumia to put more effort into finding workable answers to the young unemployment problem than pursuing political confrontations.
