Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), claims that the party’s track record in education is unmatched in Ghanaian history.
He claims that the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy in particular has increased interest in education.
In addition, Dr. Bawumia stated that the Free SHS program had enhanced student performance in addition to increasing enrollment.
As part of his visit to the Greater Accra Region, the Vice President gave a speech at a stakeholders’ engagement at the Church of Pentecost, Kaneshie Central Assembly, in the Okaikwei South Constituency.
“We have achieved gender parity and the performance in the SHS has improved. People were saying free SHS will reduce quality but the results of WASSCE exams in these past years have been impressive.
“The top three students in the whole of West Africa are from Ghana and this shows our standard has gone up. Gone were the days we didn’t have chalks in schools but now we are supplying tablets to every SHS student in the whole of Ghana,” he said.
