Eastern Regional Director of Education of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr. Ivy Asantewaa Owusu, has warned teachers to desist from examination malpractice in the ongoing 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the region.
Dr. Ivy Owusu outlined that measures have been put in place to create a conducive environment for students to deliver their best in the Eastern region.
She disclosed that a total of 55,831 candidates are taking part in the exam. He said that 27,753 boys and 28,078 girls are expected to sit for the 2025 BECE.

“We have a total number of 1,535 public schools and 629 private schools,, so in total we have 2,1644 schools with 195 centers across the region,”she affirmed.
After visiting four stations and seven centers in the region, Dr. Ivy Owusu said that ‘‘this year, the Eastern Region, together with my 33 municipal and district directors, had an interaction with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), where we had an interaction, and we have decided and we have embarked on zero examination of practices.’’
Dr. Ivy Owusu added that they are expecting every municipal and district director to do their homework well. She appreciated the hard work of the teachers for preparing the students for the exam.
Highlighting the dire consequences of exam malpractice, Dr. Ivy Owusu averred that incidences of exam malpractice may affect innocent students at the various centers.

Dr. Ivy Owusu added that “we don’t have a situation whereby examination will be withheld by WAEC. So that’s why we’ve embarked on zero examination, and we’ve encouraged the teachers to also support us.’’
She said that students will have access to their examination results when the results are released. She encouraged the students to perform well.
Hon. Ransford Boakye, New Juaben South Metropolitan Executive, encouraged students to deliver their best in the exams.
“We are solidly behind you; put all fears away,” he told the examinees.
Hon. Ransford Boakye disclosed that the assembly is putting measures in place to award best-performing students.
