A 23-year-old man, Kwabena Bernard has been convicted to three months imprisonment in hard labor for stealing petrol worth Ghs150.00 by the Asamankese circuit court.
The accused was also charged for causing damage and threatening the life of one Eklo Yawvi Mawuena when he appeared before the court presided over by His Honour Abubakari Abass Adams.
The prosecution, chief Inspector Susan Ayaric told the court that said both the complainant and accused person resides in Apinamang.
She said the complainant, who works with Tirupati Excavator Rental Company in Apinamang has been experiencing series of petrol theft from their excavators and motorbikes in a rented house.
The prosecutor said on 22/03/2021 at about 3:00am, a witness, in this case, reported to the complainant that he saw the accused person pumping diesel from a parked motorbike, and just after the tip, the complainant together with the witness went to the accused house and saw 25 litter petrol in a gallon.
When the complainant attempted to do civilian arrest, the accused pulled a knife and threatened the life of the complainant and cut his slippers into two with the knife when it fell as the complainant was running away to save his life.
The prosecutor said the complainant went to the police for the official report and after the accused was arrested, 25 litter of petrol in a gallon was seen in the accused house and upon interrogation, and the accused confirmed stealing it and was later arraigned before court for prosecution.
