President John Dramani Mahama has announced a major agricultural transformation plan under his government’s 24-Hour Economy Programme, starting with the irrigation of over 2 million hectares of farmland.
Speaking at the official launch of the initiative in Accra, President Mahama highlighted the Grow 24 agenda — one of the programme’s eight key pillars — aimed at revitalizing Ghana’s agriculture through technology and year-round farming.
He explained that Grow 24 will support the creation of agro-industrial parks to promote value addition, packaging, and agro-processing. These parks will help reduce post-harvest losses and improve market access for farmers.
The president noted that the initiative will drive food self-sufficiency and increase agricultural exports, with strong backing for farmer cooperatives, mechanization, and access to modern farming inputs.
Mr. Mahama added that the broader 24-Hour Economy is designed to increase productivity in agriculture, manufacturing, services, and the creative industries. It will be supported by improved infrastructure, financing, and digital technology.
