Former President John Dramani Mahama, the leader of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reaffirmed his much-discussed “24-hour” economy program, calling it a game-changer that will significantly boost the nation’s economic prospects.
Speaking at the conclusion of the party’s two-day policy dialogue in Peduase, Eastern Region, Mr. Mahama predicted that the “24 hour economy” strategy would have a good effect on all aspects of the economy.
“The 24-hour economy now remains perhaps the surest way to achieve significant economic expansion, boost productivity, meet demand, curb unbridled imports and its attendant negative effects on our economy and currency and above all generate well-paying jobs for the millions of our people who are without employment.
“I am encouraged by the very positive feedback and input we continue to receive on the proposal from our compatriots in organised labour, academia, business and industry,” he said.
The NDC Social Democracy Lab, the party’s policy think tank, was the organization behind the two-day policy dialogue.
Several party interest groups convened for the conversation, which aimed to develop and refine public policy in three areas: governance, finance and economy, and human development.
