Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy Goosie Tanoh, has disclosed that as part of efforts to turn the current Coordinating Secretariat into a complete statutory entity, Parliament is scheduled to discuss the government’s 24-hour economy policy in the upcoming weeks.
During a press event before to the official launch of the initiative and the Accelerated Export Development Programme, Mr. Tanoh added that it aims to bolster institutional backing for the programme.
“There has been approval to convert the current 24-Hour Secretariat into an Authority,” Tanoh revealed, indicating that legislative support for the proposal is already in motion.
“Of course, it will get passed by a parliamentary majority.
“We need to debate the content of the programme to justify the creation of an authority. So, it is inevitable that it is going to happen.”
He pointed out that becoming an authority will enable improved governance, efficiency, and outcome delivery, particularly as Ghana aims to increase productivity by implementing a three-shift, round-the-clock working system.
Tanoh emphasized the difficulties in the current economic climate and noted that Ghana’s irregular and unpredictable incentive structure is a key worry for both domestic and foreign investors.
“The problem is the unpredictability and lack of coherence in the incentive regime, which most investors consider—not just foreign ones, but local investors too,” he said.
“We want to build a coherent system based on performance, not location.”
