A 28-year-old man of Kitwe and a student at the Northern Technical College (NORTEC) has died after he was allegedly attacked and beaten by a group of boys who stole his cell phone as he was returning home.
According to a report published by Mwebantu, Peter Lishomwa, is believed to have returned home in a drunken state and narrated how he was beaten, but unfortunately was found dead the next morning with blood oozing from his nose.
Copperbelt commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba said police in Kitwe received a report of suspected murder which occurred between Wednesday and yesterday at 22:00 hours and 05:00 hours respectively.
The matter was reported by Veronica Nalishebo of Wasukile police camp that her young brother died at home.
“Brief facts are that on Tuesday, December 13, Peter left home for Wusakile around 16:00 hours and returned around 23:00 hours in a drunken state and narrated that he was attacked by a group of boys and only knew one by sight who fought and stole his cellphone. The next day, he left home around 08:00 hours and went back to Wusakile to try and get his phone back which he did not manage. He got home while expressing pain around 11:00 hours. He went to sleep around 22:00 hours and was found dead in his bedroom around 05:00 hours this morning,” he said.
Mr Mweemba said Police visited the scene with scenes of crime officer and the deceased was found lying down on his bed with a slightly swollen face and blood oozing from his nose.
“The deceased also had a bruise on the left elbow and a minor bruise on the outer part of his right palm.
The body has been picked and deposited into the Kitwe Teaching Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem examination.
The report of assault was not made at the police station and deceased nursed his injuries from home,” he said.
