The Suhum Police has said four persons died in the fatal bus accident which occurred near Suhum on the Accra to Kumasi highway Tuesday at 5:30am.
According to Police three of the deceased persons were children with ages -4 months,5months, and 10 months old babies.
The acting Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Command Sargeant Francis Gomado, the suspect driver Kwadwo Boateng, 51, was driving a Kia VVIP bus with registration number GL 527-13 with passengers on board from Bolgatanga, Upper East Region towards Accra.
However, on reaching a section of the road at Apeatu near Suhum on the Accra-Kumasi highway, “he alleged that his steering system became ineffective whilst the vehicle was in motion, as a result, the veered from the road and somersaulted and landed on its side at the offside of the road when facing Accra direction. One female passenger aged about 30 and three male children aged about 10, 5and 4 months respectively died on the spot”
Sargeant Gomado said National Ambulance Service and the Ghana National Fire Service assisted by Suhum District Patrol team Suhum MTTD personnel to remove the dead bodies together with the injured passengers and rushed them to the Suhum Government hospital for treatment.
Some of the passengers have been discharged.
The deceased bodies were deposited at the same hospital mortuary for preservation, identification, and autopsy.
