Three persons aboard a Covid-19 registered vehicle belonging to Ghana Health Service died in a fatal crash Monday morning at the Teacher Mante stretch of the Accra to Kumasi highway in the Eastern region.
The driver, a woman, and a child died on the spot whilst two others in critical condition were rushed to the hospital.
The crash involved a Toyota Hilux with registration number GS 1629-20 and a GHS vehicle with registration number Covid 97-20.
According to the eyewitnesses, the Covid 97-20 registered pickup vehicle and a Toyota Hilux vehicle was speeding toward Suhum’s direction on the double lane of the highway.
However, upon reaching Teacher Mante, a tricycle ridder reportedly crossed the Toyota Hilux without observing traffic.
An attempt by the driver of a Toyota Hilux to avoid crushing the tricycle forced him to suddenly join the outer lane and violently hit the rear side of the Covid 97-20 registered vehicle.
The impact forced the driver of the Covid 97-20 registered vehicle to lose control of the steering wheel, veered off the road, and crushed into a stationery trailer truck at the bus stop killing three occupants on the spot.
The two other occupants including a man believed to be a health officer were in critical condition and hence rushed to the hospital by Police.
Occupants of the Toyota Hilux sustained minor injuries.
