The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Adu Twum has said a total of 3,5843 scholarships were awarded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund(GETFund) from 2017 to 2020.
Out of the number, 2,904 were local and 679 were foreign scholarships.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Dr. Yaw Adu Twum said in 2017/2018 104 Scholarships were foreign and 355 local scholarships.
The Minister said in the 2018/2019 academic year, the GETFund gave 206 foreign Tertiary Scholarships and 812 local scholarships, whilst in 2019/2020 a total of 1,757 local scholarships were awarded and 369 foreign Scholarships were also awarded.
The Ghana Education Trust Fund is accepting applications for Postgraduate (Masters and Ph.D. Programs) Local scholarships for the 2021/2022 Academic year. The effective opening date for applications is Friday 3rd December 2021 and the closing date for applications is Friday, 31st December 2021.
The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) is a public trust set up by an Act of Parliament in the year 2000. Its core mandate is to provide funding to supplement government efforts for the provision of educational infrastructure and facilities within the public sector from the pre-tertiary to the tertiary level.
The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) was established by an Act of Parliament in 2000, Act 581, to promote the development of education in the country. Notwithstanding the well-crafted nature and noble intentions of the GETFund policy, its implementation has suffered setbacks.
