Burkina Faso’s army has confirmed that more than 50 troops were killed in an attack in the north by suspected Islamic militants.
According to a statement, 51 bodies have been recovered thus far, other soldiers are still missing, and three wounded soldiers have been evacuated from the area.
The military previously stated that it had killed more than 100 insurgents in what it described as fierce battle in Oudalan province though that number has not been independently verified.
