Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, has called on President John Mahama to apologise to Ghanaians so that he can nominate more than the promised 60 ministers.
The minority has said that managing a government with the nation’s high standards and system of governance will be challenging.
In an effort to reduce government spending, President Mahama promised to nominate just 60 ministers before to the 2024 election.
Following his election, Mr. Mahama has declared that certain ministries will not have deputies because he is determined to fulfill his pledge.
However, the Effutu MP emphasized that it would be difficult to properly govern the nation with only 60 ministers while addressing on the floor of Parliament during the debate on the ministers’ approval.
In order to properly carry out his responsibilities, Mr. Afenyo-Markin has consequently urged the President to apologize to Ghanaians and appoint additional ministries.
“When we make mistakes, let’s admit them and apologize. Sixty ministers will not help your political cause.
“I am not the president, but if I were to advise Mr. President, I would say, Mr. President, you can apologize to Ghanaians and say, look, you underestimated the thing. I think I need to engage more ministers,” he stated.
