Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia had a courtesy call from a number of New Patriotic Party (NPP) members of parliament, who vowed to back his candidacy to lead the party into the 2028 presidential election.
The visit coincides with the NPP’s preparations for the January 31, 2026, presidential primary.
Four well-known party leaders have so far announced their plans to run for flagbearer: Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the former vice president; Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the MP for Assin Central; Bryan Acheampong, the minister of agriculture; and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the minister of education.
More than 60 of the 88 NPP lawmakers, the MPs said, support Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy.
Important party leaders and ministers including as Mohammed Amin Adam, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Sammi Awuku, Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, Habib Iddrisu, and Nana Adjei Baffour Awuah were among those who paid him a visit.
Dr. Bawumia and the delegation are currently meeting behind closed doors.
