A total of 89 candidates are contesting in 32 electoral Areas in West Akyem Municipality of the Eastern Region in the today’s District Assembly election.
Out of the number, only five are women and election is expected in 125 polling stations in the Constituency.
No candidate is going un-opposed and the least number is two whilst Abease Electoral area has the highest candidates which are five.
The total number of unit’s committee candidates is 432 and over 55,000 eligible voters are expected to participate in the election.
According to West Akyem electoral commissioner, Mr. Kwadwo Debrah Gyamfi, the necessary materials for the election have arrived in the Area and all personal for the election have been trained and prepared.
The West Akyem Municipal is in one of the 260 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in Ghana and forms part of the 33 Municipalities and Districts in Eastern Region.
The Municipal capital, Asamankese, is located 75 kilometers North-West of Accra off the main Accra- Kumasi trunk road.
The Municipal shares boundaries with Kwaebibrem Municipal to the North, Birim South District to the West, Agona West Municipal, Effutu Municipal and Ga East Municipal to the South, and Suhum and Nsawam Adoegyiri Municipals to the East.
The population of the municipality according to the 2010 population and housing census stands at 108,298 with 52,208 males and 56,090 females.
