The Municipal Health Officer in the New Juaben South of the Eastern Regional Capital – Koforidua, Alfred Adomako Yeboah has said that fear is a major cause in the malfunctioning of the immune system especially when fighting diseases or viruses.
During the debut of Bryt FM’s health program dubbed ‘Me Nkwa’ literally meaning My Life, Mr Yebaoh speaking on Covid-19 Stigmatization said most at times fear makes people refrain from doing lots of things and same implies to the immune system.
According to him, no one should be afraid of visiting the hospital whenever he or she experiences symptoms of Covid-19 as it can kill them.
‘Me Nkwa’ which was aired for the first time on May 6th, 2020 is a talk program with the Host, Owoahene Kwabena Acheampong, which seeks to host health experts and stakeholders of the health sector to educate the public on issues about health.
Touching on issues revolving Covid-19 stigmatization, Sarah Wiafe advised the public to keep Covid-19 patients who have recovered company always rather than neglecting them.
“Constant interactions with them could soothe their mind off the pains they have gone through. Communicating with them does not necessarily mean a one-on-one talk with them but could be through their social media handles or text messages,” she added.
Adding up, Alex Owusu kyaw, he lamented that front line health workers are also victims of the social stigmatization. He sides with Alfred by saying that “Ignore the fear and concentrate on self-protection.”
Seeking opinions from the public, one Florence from the regional capital has advised the public especially health personnel’s to read more about the pandemic before sending out information.
Alfred then advised the public to stay away from alcohol and narcotic drugs as they are major contributors to the destruction of the immune system.
