Dr. Bryan Acheampong, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer candidate, has criticized the John Mahama-led administration, accusing it of mismanaging critical sectors of the economy one year into its term.
On the third day of the second leg of his campaign tour in the Eastern Region, Dr. Acheampong made the statements while speaking to party delegates. Delegates from the constituencies of Atiwa East, Atiwa West, and Fanteakwa came together for the interaction.
He contended that the government has not shown strong leadership or a clear vision, especially when it comes to major city transportation issues, which he claimed continue to impair production and interfere with Ghanaians’ daily lives.
Dr. Acheampong declared that, should he win the NPP presidential primary, an NPP government led by him will tackle what he called the National Democratic Congress’ “cosmetic solutions” and directly fight the party for political power.
He went on to criticize economic metrics like the cedi’s stability, claiming that they don’t accurately reflect actual advancements, particularly in the transportation industry.
“The current situation with the dollar is artificial, and this is clearly reflected in the transport sector. Instead of supporting the private sector to drive the economy, the government is relying on cosmetic measures,” he said.
