Sammi Awuku, a Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, has admitted that former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was dissatisfied during the party’s Peace Pact signing event.
In an interview with Adom TV, Mr. Awuku stated that Dr. Bawumia has expressed worries about internal party developments leading up to the presidential primary, notably the implementation of the contest’s rules.
Dr. Bawumia claims that he has been exposed to relentless attacks across numerous campaign platforms and that, despite repeated complaints, party leadership has failed to take effective measures to ensure impartiality, respect, and decorum among contestants.
Mr. Awuku also cited the Presidential Elections Committee’s decision to prohibit proxy voting in the presidential primary as a serious concern, claiming that the action is unrealistic and has effectively disenfranchised hundreds of Dr. Bawumia supporters in the diaspora.
“Obviously, he wasn’t happy. He hasn’t been happy about a few developments. He believes that the Presidential Elections Committee and the party are not playing on an equal playing field when it comes to enforcing the rules of the game.
“Looking at his countenance and demeanor, he is human. He cannot pretend when all is not well. It is clear. Some decisions of the Presidential Elections Committee have some implications on the party,” he stated.
