Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen has expressed deep concerns over the Appeal court’s ruling overturning a 10 year imprisonment handed to former chief executive officer of MASLOC, Sedinam Attionu Tamakloe.
On Thursday July 30, 2026, the Court of Appeal has unanimously overturned the conviction and 10-year custodial sentence imposed on former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedinam Tamakloe Attionu, acquitting and discharging her of all charges.
According to him the current NDC govt has set a precedence that will allow the NPP to file Niole prosequi against some high profile corruption cases in court whenever it wins power.
Speaking to Obaapa Florence Nyamekye Caesar on Bryt 99.1FM’s midday news, Nana Obiri Boahen says following the acquittal and discharging of the former MASLOC CEO, there’s a clear indication that the Ashanti Regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Bernard Antwi Bosiako alias Wontumi will be a free man should the NPP win power in 2028.
“Mark it somewhere, Chairman Wontumi will be released the very day NPP wins power, mark it on the wall”, NPP and NDC are not doing this country any good, to an extent that even a lay man can predict a court ruling, it’s sad we are leading the country this way” he said.
He added that, ” I will not blame this on the NDC alone but both NPP and the NDC are part of the nation’s problem.”
The astitute lawyer and chief was reacting to the ruling of the Appeal court that aquited and discharged former CEO of the Microfinance and small loan centre (MASLOC) after being tried and sentence to 10 years in absentia.

What happened
She was tried together with Daniel Axim, former COO of MASLOC. The trial ran from 2019 and they were convicted in April 2024 on 78 counts including:
causing financial loss to the state, theft, conspiracy to steal, money laundering, causing loss to public property, and contravention of the Public Procurement Act
Tamakloe was sentenced to 10 years in prison with hard labour.
Axim got 5 years with hard labour.
She was tried in absentia after leaving Ghana for medical reasons, and was later detained in the US in Jan 2026 and extradited to Ghana.
Money involved / Breakdown of allegations
According to court documents and EOCO investigations into funds disbursed between 2013-2016
- GH¢500,000 – Withdrawn from MASLOC as a loan to Obaatampa Savings & Loans. The money was returned in cash but was not reflected in MASLOC accounts and was allegedly appropriated for personal use
- GH¢1,816,000 – Withdrawn in tranches for a “countrywide sensitization” programme. Board had approved GH¢1,706,000. Only GH¢1,300 was actually spent on refreshments in 3 regions
- GH¢1,465,035 – Meant for Kantamanso/Kantamanto fire victims in 2013. Only GH¢579,800 was disbursed
- Total accused amounts:
- GH¢3.19 million allegedly embezzled
- GH¢1.97 million deliberate financial loss to the state
- GH¢61.74 million in unauthorised commitments creating obligations for government
- Other charges: property losses GH¢22.15m, improper payments GH¢274,000, money laundering GH¢3.7m
