The Chief Executive of COCOBOD, Dr. Ransford Abbey, concluded recent engagements with key stakeholders in the cocoa sector on the newly passed Ghana Cocoa Board Bill 2026.
The engagements were held in separate sessions with COCOBOD staff, local cocoa processors, and members of the media.
Dr. Abbey explained that the new Bill, conceived as an amendment to the 1984 Cocoa Act (P.N.D.C.L 81), is anchored on three main pillars: the need for a new funding model, a new pricing mechanism, and the need to promote local value addition in the cocoa sector.
He highlighted key provisions in the new Bill, including safeguards for farm protection, farmer welfare, and local content participation, vital elements for sustaining the future of our cocoa industry.
Dr. Abbey addressed key misconceptions and encouraged stakeholders to review the final document once published to fully appreciate its provisions.
The Ghana Cocoa Board Bill, 2026 marks a bold step forward by the Government and COCOBOD to revamp and elevate Ghana’s cocoa industry.
