The widow of the late Samuel Aboagye has made an emotional appeal to the government and Ghanaians to intensify the fight against illegal mining (galamsey), saying the best way to honour the memory of the eight officials who lost their lives is to complete the mission they dedicated themselves to.
Speaking during activities marking the first anniversary of the tragic August 6 helicopter crash, she said her husband and the seven others sacrificed their lives in service to the nation, particularly in efforts to protect Ghana’s natural resources.
She urged authorities not to allow their deaths to be in vain, stressing that the fight against illegal mining must continue with renewed determination.
“Finish the work they started. Let their sacrifice inspire decisive action against galamsey and protect our environment for future generations,” she appealed.
The ceremony brought together government officials, security personnel, families of the deceased, and members of the public to commemorate the eight individuals who died in the line of duty. Tributes were paid to their dedication, patriotism, and commitment to national service.
The August 6 helicopter crash claimed the lives of eight occupants, including senior government and security officials, in one of Ghana’s most devastating aviation tragedies in recent years.
The anniversary was observed with wreath-laying, prayers, and calls for the nation to preserve the legacy of the departed through continued service and commitment to the causes they championed.
