A delegation from Liberia’s Ministry of Labour, led by Mr Emmanuel K. Barnes, has paid a study visit to Ghana’s Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment to learn from the country’s labour administration system and explore best practices in labour governance.
The delegation was received by the Sector Minister, Hon. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, the Chief Director, Hamidu Adakurugu Esq., and other members of management, as well as heads of departments and agencies under the Ministry.
In his welcome address, Hon. Agyekum highlighted key aspects of Ghana’s labour system, including its legal and institutional frameworks, the transition from the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) to the Independent Public Sector Emoluments Commission (IPEC), and labour migration initiatives, particularly the Ghana Labour Exchange Programme.
Mr Barnes expressed appreciation for the opportunity to undertake the benchmarking tour, noting that Liberia was keen to learn from Ghana’s experience as it addresses growing labour strikes and occupational safety and health concerns, among other challenges.
The engagement also provided an opportunity for the delegation to interact with heads of departments and agencies under the Ministry and gain insights into their respective mandates and operations.
As part of the visit, the delegation is expected to undertake further engagements with the departments and agencies to gain first-hand knowledge of their activities and operational systems.
The study tour is expected to strengthen cooperation between Ghana and Liberia and promote the exchange of knowledge and best practices in labour administration.
