Following the demise of a police officer in the Eastern Regional Capital, Koforidua, there are fear and panic among residents living around in the New Juaben South Municipality.
The deceased, a 55-year-old Chief Inspector who was the Station Officer in Charge of the Central Police Station in Koforidua died Friday, May 29, 2020, after a short illness.
He was on admission at the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua for few days having visited the Police Clinic in Koforidua and Newland Hospital- a private Hospital before his death.
The cause of death was not immediately known until sample results released after his death reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.
However, Koforidua residents in an interview with Bryt FM have expressed worry and panic as they are fear grasped after hearing the news. They averred that the sad demise of the popular chief inspector has made them realize that the pandemic is real and is now scared to step out of their comfortable homes.
According to them, the late police officer had a good heart and because of that most people always wanted to visit him and have a good time with him.
“Just last month I saw a lot of people around him at the Central police station chit-chatting and exhibiting all forms of physical contacts. After a few weeks, I heard he wasn’t feeling too well and later heard he has passed on. My question is where are the people who were having happy moments with now? How can they be contacted? This disease is very dangerous. I know it has come to stay, but if we can trace these people and take samples of their blood, I think it will do us a lot of good”, one said.
“Every resident in Koforidua and its environs are at risk now as we can’t tell the number of people the chief was close to before his sudden demise of the virus. That puts everyone here health at risk. Things are getting out of hand now and we pray the government does it best by contact tracing all these people,” another said.
Police officers at the Central police station blood samples have been taken for coronavirus tests.
