Four (4) inmates at Asamankese Police Cells in the Eastern Region have tested positive for Coronavirus.
They are made up of three convicts who are 37, 66 and 70-year-old men. Also, a 21-year-old man on remand tested positive.
On June 5, 2020, the Disease Control Unit, Infection Prevention Unit and Laboratory Unit of the Asamankese Municipal Health Directorate, headed by the Disease Control Officer Mr. Moses Ali Laar went to the District Police Station upon invitation by the Police Command to take samples of sputum from 10 inmates of the cells
According to the West Akim Municipal Health Director, Dr. Samuel Agyemang four of the inmates tested positive when the results were released.
He said they have been isolated for the management of their infection.
Coronavirus cases in the Eastern region have jumped from 214 as of Friday to 235 Sunday, June 14, 2020. The Ghana Health Service has announced.
One more person has died of COVID-19 in the region bringing the total number of confirmed deaths to three (3).
The latest fatality occurred on June 12, 2020. The deceased was among patients on admission at the Covid-19 treatment center in the region.
The first death recorded was a Senior Police officer who died on May 29, 2020, while a health worker also died a few days ago.
Currently, eighteen (18) of thirty-three (33) districts/Municipalities in the region have recorded cases.
New Juaben South, Kwahu West, and Akuapem North are the hotspots areas.
