The Phase One Batch one of the Registration of Eligible Voters into the New Register for voting took off smoothly yesterday by the Electoral Commission in the West Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The West Municipality has 26 Clusters but only 13 started the registration in Phase One in 13 Electoral Areas in Asamankese Township per the EC’s Movement Plan.
In an interview with the Municipal Director of Election, Mr. Kwadwo Debrah Gyamfi said all the 26 clusters will begin working in Phase two which is expected to begin in Osenase Zone from 7th July 2020.
He said the Phase One Batch one is taking place in Arabic School ‘A and B’, Pentecost Church Central Assembly, Old Zongo Mosque, PWD, and Light House Chapel.
The rest are; Mr. Owiredu Area, Salvation Army School, Mr. Dukar Area, Abease, and End Time chapel.
Mr. Kwadwo Debrah Gyamfi called on Residents in the Municipality and political Parties to cooperate with the EC for smooth registration and urged them to avoid pushing minors and foreigners from Registering.
In a related development; Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Seth Oduro Boadu, toured some centres to ensure that social distance protocols were observed and appealed to the registration officers to grant preference to serve the aged, Nursing Mothers, and Persons with Disabilities.
Interacting with the officers in charge of the registration, the MCE said the protocols spelled out on the COVID-19 pandemic must be observed to make the exercise fruitful.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Director for the National Commission for Civic Education has also urged eligible voters to participate in the Registration Exercise to enable them to vote in the General elections to Deepen Democracy.
