A driver and his mate have been attacked by their passengers who boarded trotro from Kasoa to Madina over the transport fare.
According to the driver, Kwesi Arthur, they decided to pick the full set of passengers per the directives of the president, in his recent address which stated that drivers could now load their full capacity.
The passengers according to the story demanded a reduction in the fare since the driver was loading a full set of passengers.
The fare was increased from 4:00 to 5:00 when the president initially announced that drivers should maintain social distancing rules in trotro.
Therefore the passengers complained that if the driver was going to follow the president’s order then he should as well reduce the fare.
The driver disagreed saying that there have been no instructions from the GPRTU to reduce the fare so he can’t make that decision alone.
This statement from him triggered a passenger to attack the mate and demand his money.
The other passengers also joined and this consequently resulted in a heated argument between the drive, mate, and passengers in which the passengers pounced and beat them.
Another passenger who decided to settle the fight was also attacked and got an uppercut where blood was oozing.
“They decided to attack the mate and I just because we refused to reduce the fare as they said, they attacked the man and gave him a cut when he decided to settle the issue. He is not even the mate, he was a concerned person who wanted them to stop the fight”, he said.
The driver said that the case has been reported to the Weija District Police Commander for justice to prevail.
