Ghana Education Service (GES) has stated that they are not tolerating the recent saga in schools concerning the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
According to them, they are shocked at how students are displaying the highest level of indiscipline to the extent of showering insults on the President, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo.
Some schools that are involved in the rioting are the Juaben Senior High School, Tweneboah Kodua Senior High School, and Bright Senior High School.
Some students have committed severe crimes, for instance, students at Bright Senior High School have attacked some invigilators.
The GES added that “any destruction of school property will be surcharged against the culprits involved”.
“Instances were criminal acts have been reported should be reported to the police for investigations”, they noted.
They have also directed all Directors of Education to take action on all the misconducts of the students and also submit reports to the Director-General as soon as possible.
The Ghana Education Service has also warned parents that no plea of vindication will be tolerated.
In an interview on Eyewitness News, the Director-General of GES, Professor Kwasi Opoku Amankwa said all students involved in the rioting will be deboardinized and made to sign an undertaking.
He has assured the public that the Service has set up investigative committees to ensure that they get to the bottom of it all.
“There is intelligence that some students have arranged with some teachers hopefully to support them in the schools and when this came to the attention of the authorities, the authorities then decided to tighten the security and invigilation,” Prof. Amankwa added.
He also disclosed that the students who shared videos insulting the president have been identified as students from Sekondi College and Battor Senior High School.
