Tema West Municipal Director of the National Commission of Civic Education (NCCE), Mr Fidel Nii-Akuffo Bortey has urged Ghanaians to hold each other accountable for keeping the environment clean and use only PPEs that are approved by Food and Drugs Authority (FDA).
According to him, it has come to the notice of the commission that some Ghanaians wash their used face mask and sells them to acquitted people, as he believes that’s one factor which has led to the spread of the coronavirus.
He opined that the environmental agencies should perform their duty by checking the improper way of dumping waste PPEs on the streets especially the used face masks, because innocent children may obliviously pick those masks from the floor and play with them which will lead to another undesirable condition.
“It is our wish to wipe out COVID-19 from the system hence improper disposal of waste PPEs must be avoided.
This came to light when Mr Bortey addressed the municipality on the need to properly dispose of used PPEs.
Mr Fidel Nii Bortey, therefore, advised Ghanaians to separate used face masks from other waste materials in order not to create another miserable situation.
