Students of Community Development Vocational Technical Institute, CDVTI, a school under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development located in Kpong in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region continue to endure the brunt of infrastructural challenges.
The school lacks basic sanitary infrastructure such as toilet and bathroom forcing students to bath in an open space fenced with old iron sheets serving as a bathroom.
The students also attend natures call on an open toilet facility which is in a deplorable state.
The school offers several technical, vocational courses including IT, plumbing, general electrical, catering, building and construction, auto vehicle mechanic, cosmetology and carpentry with authorities considering the introduction of welding.
Other core subjects taught include mathematics, English, integrated science and social studies, entrepreneurship and home management.
Students who attend this school write both NAPTEX and NVTI examinations. Graduates are expected to get employable skills to be able to work for themselves.
However, the infrastructural challenges continue to discourage many youths in the Krobo enclave to be enrolled to acquire vocational and technical skills for livelihood.
Few classrooms available are congested. There is also the challenge of inadequate desks.
Many programs such as plumbing, general electrical, auto vehicle mechanic and carpentry do not have well-built practical rooms for active learning.
Currently, the Kpong Community Development Vocational Institute has students population of over 300.
The Principal of the School Mrs Felicia Mama Botchway says the infrastructural challenge is inhibiting intake of many students willing to be admitted.
The Principal has converted a room in her bungalow to serve as a dormitory to house some female students.
She is, therefore, soliciting support from Corporate Ghana to come to the aid of the school.
