International Youth Day was celebrated on 12th August 2020 and Ghana joined in the celebration to appreciate dynamic, resourceful, and hardworking young Ghanaians.
The International Youth day creates the avenue for young voices to be recognized as well as their hard work and initiatives.
The Young Diplomats of Ghana has been one group that is well known during this celebration due to its Ghana Youth Meeting and International Youth Day Debate program which is held at the World Bank for over three years now.
This year, the Youth Diplomats of Ghana dedicated the entire day to Ghana’s front-liners that are health workers who are aiding the country in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
This year’s theme was “Youth Engagement for Global Action”, and that focuses on mobilizing delegates and Alumni community to join hands and help the fight through YDG COVID-19 Education Campaign.
The campaign is in two phases and that is the creation of short educative videos in all the diverse Ghanaian languages, English and French, to address misconceptions and myths about the virus and highlight Ghana Health Services approved preventive measures.
The group is at the moment working with some regional NGOs to make sure that the videos they will create will be widely circulated to reach a large audience.
The second phase of the campaign will be the distribution of five million personal equipment and bottles of alcohol-based hand sanitizers to the public.
People who will benefit from this campaign are traders, head potters at the central business districts, drivers and bus conductors as well as people living in slums in the country.
