A presidential aspirant in the upcoming elections, Kofi Koranteng has declared that the government does not need more than 10 ministers to steer the affairs of the country.
Speaking at a presidential debate organized by IMANI Africa and Joy News, Mr. Koranteng said that having many ministries does not guarantee an effective government or leadership.
“Efficiency is what gives you effectiveness. Because we are coming in with a science-based data-driven human-centered government we know exactly what needs to be done,” Mr. Koranteng said.
This statement from Mr. Koranteng comes as addition of criticism from Ghanaians and CSOs that the number of ministries under the Akuffo-Addo government is large since it consists of 110 ministries and their deputies.
Nana Akuffo Addo introduced new portfolios when he was voted into power, some are the Special Development Initiative, Regional Re-organization, Sanitation, and Water Resources, and Zongo among others.
The president had 110 ministers in 2017 but after creating six new regions the numbers increased to 123 ministers which included various Regional Ministers and their deputies.
Mr. Koranteng said that when he is voted into power, he will run a “skin-tight” government that will be made up of only 10 ministers.
The ministers whom he will appoint will be for Agriculture, Energy, Employment, Entrepreneurial development, Finance, Foreign Affairs, Health, Interior, Trade and Industry, and Justice.
According to him, both the NPP and NDC cannot be trusted to run the country.
“Let us scrap the ridiculousness of the NDC and NPP we have seen what they have done, they are killing us, literally…Ghana we are at a crossroads. This is our moment in destiny and we need to make great things happen” he said.
