His Royal Majesty, Eze Ds JC, King of Igbos in Ghana and His Royal Majesty Eze Chuba, King of Igbos in Darfo and their entourage today paid a courtesy call on the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Eric Kwakye Darfour to discuss the current agitation between the Nigerian community and Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) in relations to foreigners doing retail trading in the country.
The King appealed to the Honourable Minster to talk to GUTA, Eastern Region brunch to temper justice with mercy and suspend their intended action to lock up all Nigerians shops in the Region.
Responding to his appeal, Honourable Darfour said, Ghana has had a long-standing trade relationship with Nigeria and that government would not do anything that would destroy the good relationship between the two countries.
Honourable Darfour recognized the key role foreigners play in the development of every nation adding that no country exists independently hence the formation of international bodies like ECOWAS, AU, UN etc.
Touching on the current agitation between GUTA and foreigners doing retail trading, Hon. Darfour said he was aware that government through the Ministry of Trade and Industry has formed a committee to look into the matter and offer directions.
He, however, called on King to advise his people to live within the laws of the country, given the assurance that the Regional Coordinating Council would do everything to protect everybody in the region including foreigners. He moreover urged them not to hesitate to contact him whenever they feel their lives are been threatened for protection.
