Deputy Minister of Education in charge of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr Yaw Adutwum has added his voice to the use of phones and other gadgets in the secondary following the persons advocating for the legalization of such gadgets.
The ruling government had assured that he was going to provide free Wi-Fi in Senior High Schools.
According to Dr Adutwum, the change in policies is in the offing to allow for the use of technology
“GES [Ghana Education Service] has been asked to review their policies, and they are going to have to review it [the ban on smart devices]. We are in the 21st century,” he said on the Point Blank on Citi Tv
Adding that the concerns of people and the argument against the use of gadgets with internet access without adult supervision will not hold back the change.
“There is a way to go around the concerns of parents and teachers as to which website the students can go to or cannot go to,” he said
Adding the Ghanaian people should be ready to adapt to the positive change technology is bringing
“In the 21st century, you have to leverage technology to improve learning outcomes. It is something that has to happen and ought to happen.”
The Vice President had revealed that a contract had been awarded for the installation of Wi-Fi in some second cycle a tertiary institution.
