Some Proprietors of Private Schools in the Eastern Region have said they were shocked and could not sleep when they heard President Nana Akufo-Addo announced that the 2020/2021 academic year shall begin in January 2021.
According to the proprietors, reopening of School for form two students in Junior and Senior High school only in October will rather cause them because they cannot pay Staff with their little fees from students from October to December.
In an interview with the proprietor for Golden Child Complex School, Mr. Evans Agyei said they were ready to receive students in September with all the COVID safety protocols.
According to him, most Private Schools have a large room for social distancing and surplus classrooms to accommodate students.
Chairman of the Private Schools Association in West Akyem, Reverend George Yamoah in an interview said he was shocked and could not sleep after the president’s address on 30th August 2020.
He accused the government of planning to collapse private Schools and called on President Akufo-Addo to rescind his decision and reopen Schools in October because the private schools also pay tax and create jobs for Ghanaians and he was optimistic that Teachers in both public and private schools can manage and control kids in school than staying in the house.
Meanwhile, the proprietor of Asuoso Saint Johannes International School in the Asene/Manso/Akroso District, Mr. George Bempong also urged private School owners to allow the government to manage the pandemic and believe that some parents may drop their kids totally from school if they return to School and contract the deadly virus.
In a related development, the proprietors have lauded the government for providing Personal Protective Equipment and a free hot meal for all students in the final year in both public and private schools.
