The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu Ekuful, on Tuesday held a huge party for children in her constituency.
At least over 700 kids from the constituency were in attendance to revel with the legislator who doubles as Ghana’s Communications Minister.
The children participated in several exciting activities including dance competitions.
Those who took the stage danced with unrivaled finesse and dexterity to the admiration of the Minister.
Speaking to the media, Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful said the event was to offer the children the chance to party with their lawmaker and other influential people in the constituency.
“It is a holiday and a great way to start the year. We haven’t had the chance to hang out with our children during the end of year celebration and we thought this was a perfect occasion, it being a holiday and a new start to not just a new year but a new decade,” she said.
For Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful, whose efforts in bridging the gaping digital divide in Ghana have been acknowledged by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and many other organizations globally, the year 2020 starts a new decade, thus the need to do things differently to ensure smiles on the face of every child.
“Let’s have some fun with our kids. For many of them, this will be the first time they will have this opportunity to enjoy themselves with all these modern gadgets. It shouldn’t just be only rich kids who will enjoy themselves, every child deserves the best. And so, we decided that let’s do this…bring the best to them—food, drinks, fun and entertainment,” she said. “All in all, I think the kids have had fun and that’s the whole essence.”
