About 150 Countries Worldwide, including Ghana marks The 40th World Food Day celebration today, Friday, 16th October 2020.
This year World Food Day marks the 75th Anniversary of the founding of FAO, to look towards the future we need to build together and the theme “Grow, nourish, sustain. Together our actions are our future.”
Celebrating the creation of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), events are organized in over 150 countries across the world, making it one of the most celebrated days of the UN calendar.
The United Nations Organization’s Food and Agriculture Association (FAO) was established on 16th October in 1945.
To commemorate this day, World Food Day is celebrated every year with a new theme.
The objective is to create awareness about the existing problems of obesity and malnutrition due to hunger.
About 5% of Ghana’s population is food insecure and about 2 million people are vulnerable to become food insecure. Agricultural growth has been more rapid than growth in the non-agricultural sectors in recent years, expanding by an average annual rate of 5.5%, compared to 5.2% for the economy as a whole.
