The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) Presidential candidate for the December general election, Ms. Brigitte Dzogbenuku has said there is nothing wrong with a Country to borrow to support the Economy.
According to her, most Countries grew by borrowing; therefore her administration shall borrow responsibly and use money accordingly to build the Nation.
Speaking at JoyNews-IMANI Africa Minority Political Parties Debate, Ms. Brigitte Dzogbenuku pledged that when given the nod, her administration will use the money borrowed responsibly but not recklessly.
Ghana’s total public debt stock jumped by 1.66 percent to hit GHS263 1billion [$46.3bn] in July 2020, according to the latest Summary of Macroeconomic and Financial Data.
But Flagbearer of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpalu at the same debate vowed to borrow money to transform the nation’s economy when given the nod during the December 7 polls.
According to him, the funds needed to expand the economy and transform the lives of Ghanaians can be found right in the country.
Meanwhile, All People’s Congress leader and flagbearer at the debate said he is not comfortable with borrowing.
He said Ghana only need visionary leaders who can manage the Country well to be financially dependent.
He attributed persistent borrowing by NPP, NDC administration to mismanagement and corruption.
At the same debate, Ivor Kobina Greenstreet the flagbearer for the Convention People’s Party (CPP) said his administration shall be responsible for managing the state resources and will not borrow.
He said the CPP is ready to make Ghana a country that gives loans to others but not a Country that borrows to service debt and pays salaries and allowances.
