Some residents in Koforidua have declared instant justice against suspects caught robbing in their communities.
The residents told mybrytfmonline.com that, there is a rise in pilfering and burglary in the Eastern regional capital which little is being done by Police to arrest the perpetrators therefore lynching the perpetrators is the only way to curb the menace.
“They should also stop stealing and doing bad things. They will take them to the police station and in the next minute u will see them on the street again”
“The way the thieves are terrorizing people ehhh, I think the lynching may start if someone is caught. They’re disturbing the peace and security we were enjoying in this town. If we kill one of them they will stop”.
“Me if you steal my food I don’t have any problem with you but trying to break my room, I will never spare you. The way these thieves have heated eerh hmmm. They nearly robbed me this past Sunday dawn at 1:25am. If I had a gun, I would have shot them all”.
Another resident who is security personnel said on condition of anonymity that “I am not supporting their actions but the people are fed up with the rampant theft ongoing. They believe that the law should throw these suspects into prisons after their arrest by the police. The people seeing the suspects walking on the street probably on either police or court bail become offended. These people are not some of us who believe that in every case the law should take its course. On a more serious note, people need to be educated on the procedure of criminal law. And who is to educate them? You and me”
The reactions by the residents follow the lynching of a 25-year-old man at Koforidua Adweso Mile-50 on Monday.
