The National President of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), Alhaji Yakubu A B Abubakar, has expressed worry over the failure of Parents to purchase Elective Textbooks for their kids enjoying the free Senior High school program.
According to him, most parents are failing to provide essential needs such as Textbooks, Pamphlet and other learning materials for their children under the free SHS because they think everything is free.
Speaking with an Accra based Television Station, Alhaji Yakubu A B Abubakar, lauded the government for providing all core subjects textbooks and Exercise books under the free policy and called on parents and guidance to play their role to make the policy beneficial to the Country.
He said some students who are in the second year now do not even have a single Elective subject textbook because there is perception out that everything is free.
Alhaji Yakubu A B Abubakar has also called on government and contractors working on Infrastructure at the various Senior High Schools to speed up projects to end the tracking system in over 400 schools out of the about 800 Senior High schools.
The CHASS president has welcomed Education Ministry to pay assisted Senior High Schools their funds for the academic year within 10 days.
This assurance is in response to complaints from the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary School (CHASS) that schools will struggle to operate beyond the next two weeks without funding.
