The Eastern Regional Secretariat of the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC, has described as deceptive the numerous sod-cutting spree embarked upon by President Akufo Addo in the region this year.
Addressing the media in the second edition of “Efie 3ny3 series “on Tuesday at an abandoned project site for an Enyeresi Hospital Remodeling in Atiwa East, the NDC said the party has noted a major concern relating to the rampant and indiscriminate sod-cutting ceremonies being organized by Akufo Addo, and NPP government without an established source of funding, to hoodwink the unsuspecting Ghanaian electorates to believing that they have something to show for the over Ghc 370 billion that has become available to them so far.
The Press conference addressed by Darlas Ampomah Williams -the Eastern Regional Communication Officers of the NDC stated that “we would like to address you on the Sakawa sod-cutting ceremonies that Akufo Addo performed, during his visits to the Eastern Region on health infrastructure since he became president, which have seen no work after he exited the region. Nana Akufo-Addo cut the sod for the construction of the following:
1. Eastern Regional Hospital-Koforidua (July 22, 2020)
2. Atiwa West District Hospital-Kwabeng (October 1, 2020)
3. Remodeling of Enyiresi Hospital-Akim Enyiresi (October 1, 2020)
4. Upgrade of the clinic to Polyclinic-Nkwatia Kwahu (October 9, 2020)
5. District Hospital-Achiase (October 4, 2020)
6. Okere District Hospital-Adukurom (August 25, 2020)
7. New Juaben North District Hospital-Jumapo (October 9, 2020)
8. Central Corridor Trauma Hospital-Anyinam (October 1, 2020)
He proceeded to state that “So far, we have analyzed about 8 sites that Sakawa sod-cutting ceremonies on health were performed since he last visited the region, and these sites are yet to see a scintilla of work, weeks after the ceremonies were done. For instance, Akufo Addo performed the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of the Eastern regional hospital in Koforidua on July 22, 2020, and to date, the place has become the den of rodents and dangerous reptiles. Again, a visit to the Adukrom site where Akufo Addo cut the sod for the construction of a district hospital on August 25, 2020, saw a forest.”
He said “even though this is the home region of the President, yet the most deprived in terms of development since he became president. Sadly, all the projects that were started by the visionary H.E. John Mahama have been left to rot. A typical example is the Abetifi District Referral hospital, which was over 60% Completed before the NDC left office, has become a comfortable abode for rodents and dangerous reptiles, under the failed Akufo Addo”.
The NDC said, it is crystal clear that Mr. Akufo-Addo can sense defeat in the upcoming elections in December, due to his abysmal performance and his government’s unbridled quest to capture state resources for family and friends, hence his desperate attempt to use the Sakawa sod-cutting ceremonies to bamboozle the unsuspecting electorates of the Eastern region to see him as one working in our collective interest.
“But, the good thing is that the people of the Eastern region are wild awake to his elementary schemes, and are poised to kick him out come December 7, 2020.it is a known fact that the Akufo Addo, the government has nothing to show for the over Ghc 370 billion they have gotten for their tenure, hence the need to kick this nepotistic, clueless, insensitive, substandard, and failed administration of Akufo Addo, and bring back the visionary H. E. John Dramani Mahama, and the NDC to rescue this country from collapsing”.
