President Akufo-Addo has assured all the over three thousand (3000) displaced traders of the Odawna Pedestrian Market near the Kwame Nkrumah interchange in the Klottey Korle Constituency, that government through the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI), will provide direct support to them to resume their businesses after a fire raced down the market where they ply their trade.
The President gave the traders this assurance when he paid a visit to the gutted market to see at first hand, the level of distraction at the Odawna pedestrian market by the fire which started in the wee hours of today, Wednesday, the 18th of November 2020.
“The MCE and others have started working to document all traders whose shops have been destroyed and the government will subsequently move in to offer them help within the shortest possible time so they can resume their trading immediately,” President Akufo-Addo said.
On the general issue of wiring in all markets in the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area, President Akufo-Addo stated that he has been informed by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (Ama) boss that the plan to rewire all markets has commenced and the Odawna Market will not be left out.
“Government has begun the rewiring of all markets in Accra and we will ensure that we stop such tragic incidents from happening again,” President Akufo-Addo said.
President Akufo-Addo was accompanied on his visit to the site of the fire by the Municipal Chief Executive Officer (MCE) for Korle Klottey, Nii Adjei Tawiah, and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI), Kosi Yankey.
